Sokoto PDP Rejects National HQ’s Executive Dissolution

Sokoto PDP Rejects National HQ’s Executive Dissolution

The Sokoto chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the national leadership’s decision to dissolve its State Executive Committee and appoint a caretaker panel chaired by Hayatu Tafida. Chairman Bello Goronyo insisted the sitting executives were democratically elected and argued that only a court of law can remove them. He warned that imposing a caretaker committee without constitutional backing undermines internal democracy amid a wider national crisis pending Supreme Court review. Analysts say unresolved disputes risk weakening the party’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.

How do you think Sokoto PDP's rejection of the caretaker panel will affect party unity ahead of elections?

I agree that this move might show strong local stance, but it could also stir friction among stakeholders before elections.

I doubt this move will seriously harm unity; PDP often handles such disagreements behind closed doors without rocking the boat.

It's interesting that the Sokoto executives insist their election was democratic, yet national leaders claimed procedural issues prompted the panel appointment.

I'm not convinced the state chapter fully considered national concerns before rejecting the dissolution decision so quickly.

Party stakeholders should review the state constitution and mediation mechanisms to prevent similar disputes from derailing future campaigns.
