Securing the Trans Niger Pipeline Fuels 80% Surge in Nigeria’s Oil Output
Nigeria’s crude oil and condensate production has jumped by about 80% since May 2023. Improved security and operations along the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) are key to this recovery. Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited reported zero incidents of vandalism or oil theft along the TNP during its recent stakeholder meeting. This achievement has helped operators reopen inactive wells, lifting national output from around one million to 1.8 million barrels per day. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources highlighted that policy reforms, renewed investor confidence, and community partnerships have strengthened pipeline protection. PINL’s collaboration with youths, traditional rulers, and women’s groups in 216 host communities has uncovered illegal bunkering, dismantled theft networks, and supported arrests. Despite these gains, Nigeria aims for 2.5 million barrels per day. With an estimated 37 billion barrels of reserves and 209 trillion cubic feet of gas, sustaining security along key routes like the TNP will be crucial for future growth.
