Don't Rebuild What God Has Torn Down: A Warning Against Returning to Sin
Galatians 2:18 warns us that restoring the old life of sin makes us transgressors. The original word for “destroy” means to raze a building to the ground. In Galatians 2, Paul rebukes Peter for slipping back into works-based religion. Relying on rituals denies the finished work of the Cross. We see the same pattern in Israel, who longed for Egypt in hardship, and in Jesus’ warning about an empty house left vulnerable to old spirits. Today, going back to toxic relationships, addictions, pride, or cultural compromises is like rebuilding walls God leveled. True freedom comes from grace alone, not self-effort or new sins. If you recognize these old walls rising in your life, there is mercy at the cross. Surrender your past to Jesus, repent, and ask Him to fill you with His Spirit to stand firm and never turn back.
