Turaki Faction Warns of Leadership Crisis After Split Supreme Court Verdict on Ibadan PDP Convention
The Supreme Court of Nigeria, in a 3–2 decision, upheld lower courts’ nullification of the Ibadan PDP convention. The majority judgment found the gathering in contempt of a Federal High Court ruling and dismissed Turaki’s appeal. The two dissenting justices argued the dispute was an internal party matter and non-justiciable. They also criticized the court for raising new issues without letting the parties address them. This split verdict leaves the PDP without clear leadership. We urge party organs to act swiftly to restore structure and safeguard multi-party democracy before the party veers into a dangerous bend.
