Do Northern Nigerians All Support One Nigeria?
I saw a video where a Northern youth leader claimed that all Northerners back One Nigeria. On the ground, the situation seems more complex. Boko Haram has fought to break up Nigeria for over a decade. They blame Western education—"boko"—for the country’s failures. They are among the most organized separatist groups, with estimated annual revenue rivaling that of some states. Without federal allocations, parts of Borno State could already function as a de facto entity. History also shows other calls for division in the North. Sir Ahmadu Bello hinted at separation before independence, and Major Gideon Orkar led a coup attempt in 1990. Meanwhile, many Southerners also debate unity versus breakup. Is national unity truly a shared stance across all regions?
