Akpabio Links Insecurity Surge to Election Build-Up, Predicts Sharp Decline After 2027 Polls
Senate President Godswill Akpabio says the recent rise in insecurity stems from electioneering tensions. Speaking at the inauguration of the new Nigerian Revenue Service headquarters in Abuja, with President Bola Tinubu in attendance, he accused unsettled political actors of sponsoring violence. He predicted that within two weeks of the 2027 elections, the security situation will improve significantly. Akpabio also criticised the opposition as disorganised and urged Nigerians to remain patient with the Tinubu administration. He commended NRS head Zacch Adedeji for his widely accepted leadership in tax administration. The state-of-the-art NRS complex features three 16-storey towers accommodating about 3,000 staff, marking the formal transition under the 2025 NRS Act.
