Edo State Launches Simplified Disability Rights Law to Boost Inclusion
Edo State has unveiled an easy-to-understand version of its Disability Rights Law to strengthen protection and inclusion for persons with disabilities across all 18 local government areas. The simplified guide aims to help individuals, families, and stakeholders grasp their rights and responsibilities under the law. At the launch in Benin City, the Secretary to the State Government stressed that laws only serve citizens when they are clear and accessible. He praised the initiative for empowering people to claim justice and equal opportunities. The event was organized by the Edo State Commission for Persons with Disabilities in partnership with a national disability advocacy network. Key provisions include a guarantee of education from primary through tertiary levels and the mandate to establish at least one special school in each local government area. Leaders called for dedicated radio programmes to raise ongoing awareness of disability rights. The simplified law is expected to drive compliance, foster social inclusion, and ensure that no citizen is left behind in the state’s development.
