Three Nigeria-Eligible Stars in Italy’s New 24-Man Squad
Interim Italy coach Silvio Baldini has included three players who could still represent Nigeria in his 24-man group for summer friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece. Paris FC forward Luca Koleosho, Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor and Genoa striker Jeff Ekhator all qualify for the Super Eagles through Nigerian parentage. Despite their inclusion, appearances in these friendlies will not cap-tie them under FIFA rules. If any of the trio secure further call-ups in competitive fixtures, they will lose the option to switch to Nigeria. The country has seen talents with similar profiles choose Italy in the past, though the Super Eagles retain hope of securing more diaspora stars. The Nigeria Football Federation is reportedly in talks for other dual-eligible prospects and will be watching closely. Losing these three to Italy could affect long-term squad planning and depth for future tournaments.
