Trial of Lexus SUV Driver in Anthony Joshua Crash Adjourned to June 2

Trial of Lexus SUV Driver in Anthony Joshua Crash Adjourned to June 2

The Ogun Magistrates Court in Sagamu has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Mobolaji, the driver of the Lexus SUV in the December 29 crash involving former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, until June 2, 2026. This marks the third postponement as prosecutors prepare fresh charges. Mobolaji faces four counts including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving causing bodily harm and property damage, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence. Magistrate Olufunmilayo Somefun granted the adjournment at the request of the prosecution, with no objection from the defence. The accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami. Both legal teams say the delay will ensure a full and fair hearing.

Why do you think the prosecution keeps delaying this trial until June 2, 2026, instead of proceeding as planned?

This might not be deliberate stalling; complex cases often require more time for thorough preparation.

This third adjournment suggests the case is moving slower than expected, raising questions about the court's efficiency.

I'm not convinced a postponement always hurts justice; sometimes courts need extra time to prepare solid cases.

To avoid repeated delays, attorneys could propose a clear timeline for evidence submission and witness availability.
