Can Peter Obi Tackle Nigeria’s Insecurity Where a Major General Couldn’t?

In 2016, Buhari’s government declared Boko Haram technically defeated. Attacks did drop and bomb blasts in churches and parks became rare. Yet the insurgents still hold bases in the Lake Chad basin and Sambisa Forest. Even a former commanding officer in the military couldn’t drive them out of the country. So how can Peter Obi, a businessman, succeed where a major general did not? Does he have plans to restructure the military, deploy drones or import new equipment? Or will we see another security failure after the speeches?

True talk! Obi's fresh ideas and focus on community intel could really change the game against those bases.

It's striking that even a former military commanding officer couldn't clear those forest strongholds, so why would any politician fare better?

Peter Obi hasn't led any large-scale security ops himself, so placing him next to a major general feels premature.

Boosting local intelligence networks and investing in community policing around Sambisa perimeter could offer a more sustainable security model.
