2027: Why Okun Deserves a Shot at Kogi Governorship
A recent declaration by the Kogi West APC Leaders Forum that Okun cannot produce the next governor is politically arrogant. It attempts to suppress the legitimate aspirations of the Okun people. No one owns the right to decide who can or cannot contest the governorship of Kogi State. The people of Okun have constitutional, historical, and democratic rights to seek the state’s highest office in 2027. Political cooperation should apply equally to all districts. It is unfair to rely on Okun votes during elections and then shut them out of leadership opportunities. Okun has produced distinguished Nigerians in every sector. Its influence spans beyond Kogi State and reaches across the Southwest and beyond. Any politician who underestimates this network risks a serious miscalculation. The 2027 governorship contest is open to all. The Okun people will negotiate, mobilise, and build alliances. They demand political fairness, not domination, and will not surrender their legitimate aspiration.
