US Congressman Proposes CRUSADE Act to Bar Sharia for Religious Immigrants

A US Republican lawmaker has unveiled the CRUSADE Act, a bill that would require immigrants admitted as religious workers to renounce Sharia law and pledge allegiance to the US Constitution. In a post on his social media, Congressman Barry Moore called Sharia a system that "justifies the persecution of religious minorities, restricts women’s rights and elevates religious law above all." He said the new measure aims to protect constitutional authority and individual freedoms. It remains unclear when the CRUSADE Act will be formally introduced in Congress. Sharia law, based on Islamic principles, is practised in varying forms across many countries and communities worldwide.
