Activists Condemn DSS Summons, Accuse Nursing School CEO of Silencing Critics
The DSS Enugu Command has summoned Francis Nwapa, socialist activist and human rights campaigner, following the Youth Rights Campaign’s effort to challenge the alleged illegal expulsion of a student nurse at Ezzy International College of Nursing Science, Enugu. YRC insists the school’s CEO, Dr. Gloria Bertram Okoli, is misusing security services to intimidate students and stifle any challenge to administrative authoritarianism. The group has demanded the summons be moved to Lagos or that travel arrangements to Enugu be provided. While Nigeria grapples with insecurity and violence, YRC decries the DSS’s role in intimidating activists and students. They vow that repression will not break their resolve to defend the rights of oppressed students, workers and Nigerians.
