Why I No Longer Believe in 'One Nigeria' – A Former Supporter's Wake-Up Call
I once believed in the ideal of One Nigeria. But after decades of military rule and now nearly 12 years of flawed democracy, I see a system built on corruption, injustice and broken promises. This is not an attack on every Nigerian, but a call to face the painful truths we all sense. From the presidency down to local councils, graft and sycophancy rule. Judges bend the law for the powerful. Legislators legislate to enrich themselves. Anti-graft agencies target the vulnerable, while the well-connected go free. Governors treat states as personal empires, and power distributors extort the public they claim to serve. No amount of tinkering will fix a foundation laid in falsehood. We need a truly inclusive Sovereign National Conference to redefine our union. Only by dissolving the old structure—and building new states on accountability, justice and unity—can we offer real hope to present and future generations.
