FIFA and CAF Praise DR Congo’s Dramatic 2026 World Cup Qualification

FIFA and CAF Praise DR Congo’s Dramatic 2026 World Cup Qualification

FIFA and CAF have congratulated DR Congo after they secured a place at the 2026 World Cup. The Leopards earned their spot with a 1-0 victory over Jamaica in extra time during the intercontinental play-off final in Mexico. Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe scored the decisive goal from a corner five minutes into extra time. This will be DR Congo’s second World Cup appearance, following their debut in 1974 in West Germany. To reach the play-off, they edged Nigeria’s Super Eagles on penalties in the African play-off last November. On social media, CAF posted “52 years later. The return was worth the run. Already proud, DRC.” FIFA added “Dreams unlocked. Congo DR are going to the FIFA World Cup.” Report by James Agberebi.
