Amawbia Celebrates Unity and Harvest at Eziokpaligwe Festival 2026

Amawbia Celebrates Unity and Harvest at Eziokpaligwe Festival 2026

Amawbia Town came alive from March 26 to 28 for the Eziokpaligwe Festival 2026 at Eziokpaligwe Square. Indigenes and guests gathered to honour tradition, agriculture and community pride. His Royal Highness Ozo Uchenna Okonkwo opened the event with prayers for prosperity, security and a rich harvest. He also announced a yam-growing contest with cash prizes of ₦100,000, ₦50,000 and ₦25,000 for the largest tubers, overseen by a transparent committee. Town leaders highlighted the festival’s role in strengthening unity and promoting hard work. They presented farm tools, seedlings and essential inputs to all six villages, underscoring the importance of agriculture to Amawbia’s growth. Colorful dances, rhythmic music and traditional displays showcased the town’s heritage. As the celebration continues, the spirit of togetherness and hope remains at its heart.

Absolutely, the way people shared freshly harvested crops felt very unifying.

Yeah, the yam blessing ceremony seems like it really bonded folks, even if I remain a bit doubtful about its depth.

It's impressive to see community pride highlighted, but I wonder if focusing mostly on agriculture might overshadow other cultural elements.

I'm not convinced that a three-day festival fully captures Amawbia's traditions; a longer celebration could offer deeper cultural experiences.

Organisers could schedule practical workshops on modern farming techniques to strengthen local agriculture and honour community heritage next year.
