Celebrating World Music Day 2026: Rhythms Across Borders
Every year on June 21, World Music Day (also known as Fête de la Musique) turns streets into open stages. The idea began in France in 1982 and has since spread to over 120 countries under names like Make Music Day and Festa della Musica. The event invites amateur and professional musicians to perform free concerts in public spaces. Themes for 2026—“One World, One Music, Endless Harmony” and “When Music Meets Cultures”—highlight the power of music to unite communities. In Nigeria, Make Music Lagos teamed up with Alliance Française and the French Embassy to host a city-wide showcase in Lagos. Similar performances also took place across the country, bringing diverse sounds to every corner.
