Who Has the Edge for Nigeria’s 2027 Presidency After 2023 Results?

Who Has the Edge for Nigeria’s 2027 Presidency After 2023 Results? — 1 of 4
1 / 4

No major backers in 2023 left Peter Obi, Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar each with 12 states. Atiku rode on PDP governors in 2023 but leaned heavily on Adeleke in Osun and former Governor Eno in Akwa Ibom. Without that ‘magic’ next time, he risks being a spoiler rather than a contender in the South East or South South. Peter Obi has shown he can win states without a sitting governor. He nearly clinched Port Harcourt and Akwa Ibom last time. With a running mate who can deliver Kano’s 900,000 votes and Nigeria’s current economic woes, he could lead the pack in 2027. Tinubu still commands 33 governors and an INEC chairman from his camp. If the election is truly free and fair, Obi may yet carry the day.

Given each candidate won 12 states and Atiku's reliance on Adeleke and Eno, what factors could shift the 2027 outcome?

No yawa, alliances and grassroots strength really fit decide who carry 2027 trophy.

It seems unlikely Atiku can count on the same level of state support in 2027 without fresh alliances or grassroots momentum.

I'm not convinced Obi's strong showing in 2023 automatically translates into nationwide appeal four years down the line.

They should start building real cross-regional coalitions now, make sure say they gather grassroots support well before primaries.
