Journalists Demand Urgent Rescue of Easter Abductees in Southern Kaduna

Journalists Demand Urgent Rescue of Easter Abductees in Southern Kaduna

The Southern Kaduna Journalists Forum has urged the state government and security agencies to step up efforts to free worshippers abducted during Easter celebrations in Ariko Village, Kachia LGA. Sources say the victims have been held for over two months, alongside others seized in recurring attacks. The forum warned that ongoing kidnappings and raids are displacing families, disrupting farming and trade, and undermining livelihoods across Southern Kaduna. It noted reports of some communities forced into reluctant talks with bandits, a sign of growing desperation. In a communique, the group called for a stronger security presence through new operational bases, better intelligence gathering, and early-warning systems. It also urged traditional and religious leaders to collaborate with security forces and vigilante groups to protect vulnerable areas. The forum stressed the need for swift arrest and prosecution of kidnappers and their sponsors. It added that credible, fact-checked reporting is crucial to inform the public without inflaming tensions and to support efforts to restore safety and economic activity in the region.
