UAE Insists Free Passage Through Strait of Hormuz in Any US-Iran Deal

UAE Insists Free Passage Through Strait of Hormuz in Any US-Iran Deal

The United Arab Emirates says any agreement to ease US-Iran tensions must guarantee uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Senior UAE official Anwar Gargash stresses the channel cannot be used as a bargaining chip in international disputes. He highlights that the waterway handles about one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas shipments daily and should be treated as a global economic priority. Recent hostilities have disrupted traffic and raised energy security concerns. While supporting an end to conflict, the UAE warns a ceasefire alone won’t resolve deeper issues. Gargash emphasizes the need to address Iran’s nuclear ambitions, missile and drone capabilities to avoid a more unstable Middle East. He adds the UAE is ready to back international efforts, particularly those led by the United States, to safeguard shipping routes. Gargash warns that escalating tensions could deepen Gulf-US security ties and further strengthen military presence in the region.

Energy markets rely on Hormuz transit, so stakeholders need contingency plans for any deal that might disrupt shipping.
