A 62-year-old trader, Mamuda Hassan, was arrested at the Lafia cattle market in Nasarawa State after allegedly circulating counterfeit ₦1,000 notes. The Nasarawa Police Command confirmed the arrest, saying operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department acted on credible intelligence. Hassan, a resident of Anchor Zaria in Kaduna, was detained while attempting to pass the fake notes. Under questioning, he admitted that an accomplice in Mararaba Akunza supplied the counterfeit currency. Police are now working to apprehend the suspect’s partner. The state’s Commissioner of Police has urged traders, POS operators, fuel attendants and motor park workers to watch for poor print quality, incorrect size, duplicated serial numbers and missing security features. Anyone with information on counterfeit currency is asked to report to the nearest station.
