IGP Disu Launches 14-Day Security Blitz to Restore Peace in Benue
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has announced a special 14-day operation targeting flashpoints across Benue State. The campaign will focus on flushing out armed herders, kidnappers and criminal gangs in identified hotspots such as Gbajimba, Agasha, Kwande and Makurdi. Disu warned youths against being used as “cannon fodder” during violent clashes and reminded residents that only authorised security personnel may carry arms. He pledged strict enforcement of Force Order 237 and ordered the public display of police contact details for reporting crimes and misconduct. Governor Hyacinth Alia and traditional rulers, including the Tor Tiv and religious leaders, threw their full support behind the operation. They emphasised that lasting peace requires strong community cooperation and called for credible intelligence sharing to avoid victimising innocent residents.
