Police Bust Cybercrime and Cultism Ring in Lekki-Ajah, Arrest Three Suspects
The Nigeria Police Force’s Zone 2 command in Onikan, Lagos, has arrested three men for a string of offences including cybercrime, forgery, impersonation and cultism. The operation followed credible intelligence gathered by the Zonal Intelligence Department. Detectives arrested 24-year-old Tega Emmanuel along Chevron Drive in Lekki-Ajah on January 7. A search of his home led to the arrests of 33-year-old Jacob Olatunde and 36-year-old Gift Okubakpere. During questioning, the suspects confessed that Emmanuel coordinated romance and fraud schemes, Olatunde handled illicit transactions and Okubakpere managed cryptocurrency scams on social media and banking platforms. Authorities recovered multiple electronic devices, including laptops, tablets and phones containing evidence of criminal activity. They also seized six international passports, vehicle and dealer plates, military camouflage, a toy pistol used for online skits, counterfeit US dollar notes and suspected Indian hemp. The Assistant Inspector General of Police commended officers for their professionalism and assured the public that the suspects will be prosecuted after investigations conclude. Further cooperation with other agencies is underway to verify the seized currency and drugs.
