Glasgow 2026: Rafiatu Lawal Wins Weightlifting Gold With Games-Record 229kg

Rafiatu Folashade Lawal retained her Commonwealth Games title in the women’s 58kg weightlifting event at Glasgow 2026, winning gold with a Games-record total of 229kg. Canada’s Ann-Sophie Taschereau claimed silver with 215kg, while India’s Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam won bronze after lifting 199kg. Lawal’s victory was Nigeria’s third weightlifting gold of the Games, following triumphs by Edidiong Umoafia in the men’s 71kg category and Onome Didih in the women’s 53kg event. Team Nigeria’s medal tally now stands at 10: six gold and four silver.
