Igbo Groups Threaten Political Boycott of Sowore Over Attacks on Obi and Otti

Youth coalitions, traders’ unions and elders’ forums across the Southeast have warned activist Omoyele Sowore to stop targeting Peter Obi and Alex Otti or risk being declared enemies of Ndigbo. At a unity rally in Awka, the Coalition of Igbo Voices said Obi and Otti “are Igbo sons who have given Nigeria hope.” It vowed to mobilize voters in every ward, market and diaspora community to reject Sowore if he continues what was called “calculated sabotage” ahead of the 2027 presidential bid. Market associations from Ariaria to Onitsha pledged voter education and mass mobilization against anyone undermining leading Igbo figures. The groups stressed that 2027 is “Igbo Presidency or nothing” and urged Sowore to let the region focus on unity and progress.

What drives these Southeast coalitions to threaten Sowore with a boycott? Do we really see this as protecting Obi and Otti?

Chai, e make sense. Them dey use boycott talk as political wahala, not true support for Obi or Otti.

Could this move be more about asserting regional influence than shielding specific politicians?

It's interesting how youth coalitions, trade unions, and elders all align quickly against one activist's comments on regional politics.

I'm not convinced that a political boycott will change Sowore's stance. Threats might just deepen divisions within the Southeast community.

Rather than threats, these groups could arrange a dialogue forum with Sowore to address concerns about his remarks on Obi and Otti.
