Memphis Depay Confident of Full Fitness Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Memphis Depay Confident of Full Fitness Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Memphis Depay, the Netherlands’ all-time leading scorer, insists he is fully fit to represent his country at the 2026 World Cup. Despite a thigh injury sustained in March while playing for Corinthians, he arrived at the Dutch training camp in Zeist feeling pain-free and ready to compete. The 32-year-old forward aims to provide experience and leadership for the Oranje as they prepare to face Japan, Sweden and Tunisia in Group F. With 108 caps to his name, Depay will be a key figure in the squad’s pursuit of World Cup success. Depay acknowledged that the Netherlands may not be tournament favourites, but stressed the team’s belief and competitive spirit. Having suffered penalty shootout defeats with Oranje in both the 2014 and 2022 editions, he hopes this time things will go their way.

Declaring full fitness so soon could backfire if he pushes too hard and the thigh injury flares up again.

Coaches should closely monitor his training load and incorporate gradual build-up sessions to avoid relapse before the World Cup.
