Oba Akiolu Rejects ₦5m Abacha-Era Bribe, Urges Integrity and Prayer
Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, marked his 23rd coronation anniversary by recalling how he turned down a ₦5 million bribe during the Abacha military regime. He said his commitment to discipline, integrity and the fear of God guided him when an emissary offered the money after he helped secure Sir Michael Otedola’s passport release. The former Assistant Inspector General of Police praised President Tinubu’s long-term vision and major infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Badagry-Sokoto road corridor. He urged Nigerians to support the ongoing economic and security reforms, trusting that God would bring success. He called for national unity and prayer amid current challenges, reminding citizens that honesty and fairness are key to true leadership.
