Ex-Ally Slams Otti’s Five-Star Hotel Obsession, Urges Broader Development in Abia
A former ally of Governor Alex Otti has accused the administration of chasing luxury hotel projects at the expense of critical state needs. In an open letter, Moses Ayodele Orji criticised repeated five-star hotel announcements as misplaced priorities and questioned their economic viability. Orji highlighted several proposed ventures, including converting the Umuahia Government House into a hotel, building at Nsulu Airport, and upgrading Enyimba Hotel in Aba to a Radisson Blu facility. He also raised concerns over large-scale land acquisitions and a lack of legislative oversight. He warned that sidelining public consultation and democratic institutions risks eroding citizens’ trust. Orji urged the governor to prioritise projects with broader economic benefits, embrace transparency, and restore institutional checks and balances.
