Messi Becomes Owner of Spanish Fourth-Tier Club UE Cornellà
Argentina legend Lionel Messi has completed the purchase of UE Cornellà from an official statement released on Thursday. The Catalan side currently competes in Group V of the Tercera RFEF, the fourth tier of Spanish football. UE Cornellà sit third in their group, five points behind leaders Manresa, and have already secured a playoff spot as they chase promotion. Messi now holds full ownership of the club. He joins a growing list of players investing in club ownership, following Cristiano Ronaldo at Almería and Thibaut Courtois at Le Mans. Other examples include Kylian Mbappé (S.M. Caen), Gerard Piqué (FC Andorra), David Beckham (Inter Miami) and Sadio Mané (Bourges Foot 18).
