Paul’s Message on Ignorance and the Unknown God

Paul stood on Mars Hill and addressed the Athenians. He pointed out their superstitions and the altar inscribed "To the Unknown God." He explained that the true God made the world and does not dwell in temples crafted by human hands. Paul urged everyone to seek the Lord, since in Him we live and move and have our being. He reminded them that God overlooked past ignorance but now calls all people everywhere to repent. He assured them that the risen Christ will judge the world in righteousness, as promised in Scripture.

Was Paul challenging their lack of knowledge about deities, or was he hinting at something else?
