Adelabu Dismisses Governorship Rumours, Stays Focused as Power Minister

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dispelled rumours about his Oyo State governorship ambitions. He missed the March 30, 2026 resignation deadline required by the Electoral Act for political appointees seeking elective office. A letter circulating online was dismissed as fake by his media aide, Bolaji Tunji. “He is still fully in charge of his duties as Minister of Power and committed to the president’s mandate,” Tunji said. Adelabu had been linked to the APC’s Oyo governorship race over the past year. His decision not to step down effectively ends speculation about his participation in the 2027 election.

Lawmakers and civil society should call for transparent timelines on power reforms so stakeholders can track Adelabu's performance.
