Living Stones: Understanding 1 Peter 2:4-10 and Our Identity in Christ

This passage presents Jesus as the Living Stone, rejected by people but chosen and precious to God. Believers are described as living stones being built into a spiritual house, forming a holy priesthood that offers acceptable sacrifices through Christ. Scripture reminds us that the cornerstone laid in Zion ensures that those who trust in Him will never be put to shame. To believers, this stone is precious; to unbelievers, it becomes a stumbling block because of their disobedience. As God’s chosen people—a royal priesthood and His special possession—we are called to declare His praises. Once outside His fold, we now belong to God and have received His mercy. This passage challenges us to embrace our identity and live in the light of His grace.

I notice the text emphasizes chosen status, but I wonder if such assurance risks overlooking the call to humble service.
