US House Approves $70B “Secure America Act” to Fund ICE and Border Patrol
On June 9, the US House passed the Secure America Act by a 214–212 vote. The legislation allocates $70 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection through the end of President Trump’s term. Democrats held out for reforms after two US citizens were fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis earlier this year. Their demands did not surface in the final text, prompting GOP leaders to push the bill over the line. Speaker Mike Johnson celebrated the vote as ending the “third Democrat government shutdown” of this Congress. Senator Lindsey Graham also praised House Republicans for fully funding ICE and CBP through President Trump’s second term. The measure now moves to the president’s desk for his expected signature.
