IGP Disu Bans Unauthorized TikTok, Facebook and Other Social Media Posts by Police Officers

IGP Disu Bans Unauthorized TikTok, Facebook and Other Social Media Posts by Police Officers

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed all serving officers to stop creating or sharing unauthorised content on social media platforms. The ban covers videos, skits, live streams and any posts made in uniform or from police premises without written approval. Defaulters face severe disciplinary measures, including suspension, salary forfeiture, demotion, dismissal and possible criminal prosecution. Senior officers will be held personally responsible for violations by their subordinates. The circular reminds personnel that existing regulations already prohibit unauthorised public statements, monetisation of content, commenting on official operations and disclosure of sensitive information. Commissioners of Police must communicate this directive to every officer and submit proof of compliance within 30 days.
