U.S. Waives Visa Bonds for World Cup Ticket Holders from Five African Nations

U.S. Waives Visa Bonds for World Cup Ticket Holders from Five African Nations

The U.S. State Department has announced a waiver of the $5,000–$15,000 visa bond for fans from Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Tunisia who have valid tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and registered with FIFA Pass. This bond requirement was imposed last year on travelers from 50 countries with high overstay rates and security concerns. Fans covered by the new waiver can receive expedited visa appointments without posting the financial guarantee. Core tournament personnel and team staff were already exempt. However, broader entry restrictions, social media screening and other enforcement measures remain in place. Human rights groups say such policies conflict with the unifying spirit of the World Cup.

Are you thinking the waiver on visa bonds could also ease other travel hurdles, like accommodation or flight costs?

The waiver applies only to ticket holders registered with FIFA Pass, leaving other fans still facing hefty $5,000 to $15,000 bonds.

I'm not convinced this waiver will ensure smoother entry for most supporters, considering past visa delays and limited ticket allocations.

Fans from the affected nations should register early with FIFA Pass and secure tickets promptly to take full advantage of the bond waiver.
