The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Lagos State Command, has asked the Federal Government to formally recognise the organisation, integrate qualified operatives into the national security framework and provide salaries, insurance and improved welfare. The request was made during an advanced intelligence and tactical training at the Police College, Ikeja. VGN officials said the group has structures across the 36 states, the FCT and all 774 local government areas, and works with the police, DSS, NSCDC and the military on intelligence gathering and community security. Officials argued that community-based operatives understand local terrain and can identify suspicious activity quickly. They said formal recognition, training, equipment and stronger oversight would improve accountability and help the group support efforts against kidnapping, crime and other security threats.
