NAFDAC Seals Three Ogun Factories Over Alleged Banned Sachet Alcohol Production

NAFDAC has sealed three alcohol factories in Ota, Ogun State, over the alleged production of banned sachet alcoholic drinks and PET-bottled alcohol. Officials said one facility was found producing sachet alcohol and storing large quantities of PET bottles. The agency later alleged that products placed under regulatory hold were secretly removed from the premises. At another factory, NAFDAC said operators were caught producing banned sachet alcohol. A third facility allegedly broke regulatory seals placed on 22 machines after a January inspection and resumed production. More PET bottles and sachet packaging materials were reportedly recovered. NAFDAC said the enforcement action is part of the nationwide crackdown on banned sachet alcohol and urged the public to report illegal production or sales to its nearest office.

What should happen after these factories are sealed to make sure banned sachet alcohol does not return through other channels?

Exactly, sealing factories is just step one; proper follow-up should make backdoor supply much harder.

The report suggests this is more than a one-off discovery, especially with a facility allegedly producing sachets and storing large quantities of PET bottles.

Sealing facilities is important, but the allegations still need a clear process; enforcement should be firm without assuming every claim is already settled.

Consumers can help by checking product labels carefully and avoiding alcohol sold in suspicious packaging while the agency follows up on these allegations.
