Delhi Police Seize Over 1kg Cocaine Worth ₦1.49 Bn, Arrest Nigerian Supplier

Delhi Police Seize Over 1kg Cocaine Worth ₦1.49 Bn, Arrest Nigerian Supplier

A police operation in Mehrauli, New Delhi, led to the arrest of 35-year-old Nigerian national John Chibuike. Officers recovered more than one kilogram of high-purity cocaine valued at approximately ₹10 crore (around ₦1.49 billion). The Special Staff of Delhi Police South District carried out the raid on March 30 under Operation Kavach 13.0. A case was filed under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and investigators are tracing the wider supply network. Earlier in March, a separate team in Paharganj dismantled a street-level heroin racket. They arrested three suspects and seized over 34 grams of heroin along with cash proceeds. Authorities say both actions underscore a sustained crackdown on narcotics in the capital.

This seizure is a strong warning—disrupts supply routes and shows regional forces mean business.

Sure, it's a step forward, but one kilo hardly stops cartels. We need more data on follow-up seizures.

It's notable that despite strict border controls, such large quantities still arrive, suggesting gaps in surveillance or possible insider collusion.

While the arrest is commendable, focusing solely on one supplier risks ignoring the broader cartel structures that actually drive the trade.

Strengthening community policing and intelligence sharing with local residents could help uncover hidden channels before shipments reach urban centers.
