El-Rufai Secures N200 Million Bail from Federal High Court
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Kaduna, ending nearly two months in detention. Delivering the ruling, Justice Rilwan Aikawa ordered El-Rufai to remain in ICPC custody until he fulfils stringent bail conditions. The court approved bail on a N200 million bond with two sureties, including a traditional ruler and a Grade Level 15 federal civil servant. Additional requirements cover property documents, passport deposits and a ban on public comments about the case. El-Rufai faces a 10-count charge for alleged conversion of public funds, money laundering and abuse of office. Critics have argued that the high bail amount is beyond ordinary citizens’ reach and highlights inequality before the law.
