Delta Police Dismiss ‘Rape Festival’ Claims, Clarify Ozoro Ritual for Barren Women

Delta Police Dismiss ‘Rape Festival’ Claims, Clarify Ozoro Ritual for Barren Women

The Delta State Police Command has rejected allegations that the Alue-Do festival in Ozoro was a rape event. No official report of rape has been filed, Police PRO Bright Edafe told a national TV station. Edafe said none of the four girls interviewed claimed sexual violence. He explained that the law relies on evidence and witness statements, not emotions. With no testimony or proof of rape, the investigation will focus on any sexual assault allegations. The festival was a traditional rite organised by a chief priest for barren women seeking children. Sixteen suspects, including the chief priest, have been arrested after video analysis. They are now in custody at the State CID for further questioning.

It's interesting that no official rape report exists, yet the festival's ritual for barren women drew such sensational claims.

I'm not convinced the absence of reports alone clears up public concerns about how the ritual is conducted behind closed doors.

Local community groups should organize observation teams to ensure cultural events remain transparent and women's safety is prioritized.
