Lawyers Challenge 2026 SAN Conferment, Demand CJN Suspend Process

Lawyers under ALDRAP have demanded that the Chief Justice suspend the 2026 SAN conferment pending an appeal. They served a pre-action notice citing an ongoing suit at the Court of Appeal. On June 23, the LPPC, chaired by the CJN, published a shortlist of 89 applicants for final interviews. ALDRAP argues this violates a previous injunction on its alternative Blue Silks rank for non-litigation lawyers. The group warns it will seek certiorari to withdraw the shortlist and bar further actions until the appeal is decided by the Court of Appeal.

Do you think pausing the SAN conferment until the appeal is resolved is the right move by the lawyers?

Which part of the appeal do you think most justifies halting the conferment?

It's curious that the LPPC published a shortlist of 89 candidates while a legal challenge is still pending at the Court of Appeal.

Suspend the entire process? Maybe the lawyers are overplaying procedural tactics instead of focusing on stronger evidence against the conferment list.

Stakeholders should monitor the appeal timeline closely and plan alternative recognition for shortlisted candidates if the process stalls indefinitely.
