Iran Agrees to Two-Week Ceasefire and Reopens Strait of Hormuz After US Talks
On 7 April 2026, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council announced a conditional ceasefire. It declared that if all attacks on Iran cease, its armed forces will suspend defensive operations for 14 days. During this period, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will resume under coordination with Iran’s military. The statement thanked Pakistan’s prime minister and field marshal for facilitating negotiations. It also noted the United States had accepted a framework based on Iran’s ten-point proposal. Israel welcomed the temporary halt in hostilities and pledged support for US-led efforts to curb Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes. However, the truce does not extend to Lebanon.
