Pa Olusi Remembers How Chuba Okadigbo Foretold Tinubu’s Rise to the Presidency

Chairman Tajudeen Olusi spoke at the commissioning of the Opebi-Ojota Link Bridge and e-GIS complex in Lagos. He recalled a moment from 1992 during the Third Republic when then-Senator Bola Tinubu stepped aside for Senate President Chuba Okadigbo. Olusi noted that in exchange for Tinubu’s gesture, Okadigbo prophesied, “This Bola you see, he will become Nigeria’s president one day.” The elder statesman said that prophecy was God’s word and remains on record. He added that Tinubu began his political journey in Ikeja. Olusi praised the president’s humility and described his path to leadership as proof of divine appointment.

How do you interpret Olusi's story about Tinubu stepping aside for Okadigbo back in 1992? Does it change your view of current politics?

Even as I usually question these stories, I must admit this one shines new light on today's political alliances.

It feels like dredging up that 1992 incident at a bridge commissioning is meant to reshape public opinion rather than mark the new e-GIS complex.

I'm not entirely convinced that highlighting Tinubu's deference to Okadigbo adds real value to the bridge inauguration story.

Focusing on how this bridge and e-GIS complex benefit Lagos residents might spark more useful conversations than political anecdotes.
