Nigeria and Türkiye to Open Major Coastal Military Training Facility
Nigeria and Türkiye have agreed to establish a major military training centre in Nigeria as part of a new defence partnership. Under the agreement, Nigeria will provide a temporary site to start operations and has identified a coastal location for a permanent facility. Forces will train in special operations, counterterrorism, intelligence integration, counter-drone and counter-IED tactics, and UN pre-deployment exercises. The deal also covers technology transfer, joint defence industry projects, surveillance systems, unmanned aerial platforms, border management, intelligence sharing, and support for disarmament and reintegration programmes. Some forum users are surprised that sovereignty concerns were loudly expressed when the US offered support yet are silent on Türkiye’s role. They question the response of church leaders and warn that national pride must match security gains.
