MHWUN Demands 100% CONHESS Coverage for All Health Workers in Anambra
The Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) in Anambra State marked May Day by celebrating its members’ dedication and highlighting recent state investments in hospital upgrades, primary care and security improvements. Union Chairman Comrade Johnbosco Ementa praised health workers’ resilience despite equipment shortages and delayed pay. He urged Governor Soludo to honor his approval for 100 percent implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) by extending benefits to every cadre without exception. Ementa warned that leaving out bona fide union members from the full rollout contradicts federal guidelines, risks lower morale and threatens industrial harmony. He pointed out that neighbouring states already apply CONHESS fully and called on the government to swiftly correct this oversight. At the same event, organised labour under the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress reflected on the theme “Insecurity and Poverty: The Bane of Decent Work” and pressed for broader reforms, including pension reviews, recruitment drives, better office conditions and transparent salary deductions.
