Real Madrid Joins Arsenal and Barcelona in Summer Race for Julian Alvarez
Real Madrid have entered the summer transfer race to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez. Arsenal and Barcelona were already tracking the 26-year-old Argentine, with Barca’s reported £77.9m bid drawing a playful response from Atletico. Atletico even joked about lowballing Barcelona with a humorous social media post. But Alvarez’s hefty €500m release clause presents a major obstacle for any suitor. According to recent reports, Real Madrid have lodged formal enquiries and could meet Atletico’s asking price of around €150m. Alvarez netted 20 goals and provided nine assists last season as Atletico finished fourth in La Liga and reached the Champions League semi-finals. The striker is currently with the Argentine national team preparing for World Cup qualifiers. Atletico are expected to consider serious bids when the window opens.
