The Resurrection of the Dead: Understanding 1 Corinthians 15:12-34
Paul confronts those who deny the resurrection by arguing that if the dead do not rise, then Christ Himself has not been raised. Without His resurrection, our faith and preaching are rendered meaningless. He describes Christ as the firstfruits of all who have died and explains that through Adam came death, but through Christ comes life for everyone who belongs to Him. This passage also looks ahead to the final defeat of death and the restoration of all things under the Father’s authority. Finally, Paul warns against living as if today is all there is. He reminds us that bad influences can corrupt our character and calls us to live in light of the hope we have in Christ’s victory over death.
