Defence Minister Suspends Interfaith Thanksgiving Amid National Mourning

The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has postponed the Special Interfaith Thanksgiving Prayer originally set for April 4, 2026, at Kafanchan Township Stadium. He made the decision after reflecting on recent tragic incidents, including the bomb blast in Maiduguri and the Palm Sunday attack in Ungwan Rukuba, Jos, which claimed many lives and left families grieving. General Musa extended his condolences to the victims and vowed that the federal government would bring those responsible to justice. He said a new date for the thanksgiving service would be announced in due course.

I agree. Pausing the interfaith gathering shows respect for our loss and can reinforce national unity.

It's interesting that the Defence Minister paused the thanksgiving without offering a clear timeline for rescheduling or further guidance.

While sensitivity to tragic events matters, canceling a public prayer seems like an overreaction rather than a constructive tribute.

Perhaps local leaders should organize small, community-based memorials that respect national mourning yet allow people to express collective hope safely.
