Madonna, Shakira & BTS to Headline First-Ever FIFA World Cup Halftime Show, Nigerian Stars Miss Out
FIFA has confirmed Madonna, Shakira and BTS for the first-ever World Cup final halftime show on July 19, 2026 at MetLife Stadium. The Super Bowl–style performance will bring global music icons to football’s biggest night. Madonna brings four decades of hits and a previous Super Bowl halftime headline to the stage. Shakira returns with her World Cup pedigree and the tournament’s official song “Dai Dai” alongside Burna Boy. BTS will add K-pop energy, having set streaming records and won multiple awards. The show is curated by Chris Martin and produced with Global Citizen to support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise USD 100 million for quality education and football access. While Nigerians celebrate Burna Boy’s official soundtrack role, fans have noted the absence of Davido and Wizkid from the halftime lineup. Rema and Tyla will represent Afrobeats during the opening ceremonies.
