ADC Challenges Tinubu Govt to Justify N17.5 Trillion NNPC ‘Energy Security’ Spend

The African Democratic Congress has urged the federal government to explain a jump to N7.13 trillion on pipeline surveillance and energy security in the latest audited accounts of the national oil company. When fuel-related costs and receivables are added, spending rises to about N17.5 trillion for 2024. The opposition says such levels demand transparent breakdowns of contracts, costs and outcomes. The party highlights concerns over awards to a company linked to former militant leader Tompolo, now active in President Tinubu’s re-election drive. It insists public funds should secure critical assets, not political support. ADC calls on the president, NNPC board and relevant assembly committees to publish full details of all energy security outlays since May 2023, including contractor names, amounts paid, results and any independent value-for-money assessments.
